Carol Burnett, Bob Newhart and other stars stand up for senior pets
Carol Burnett, Bob Newhart, Carl Reiner, and Lily Tomlin have now teamed up to defend older pets. They were featured in a new public service announcement for the Gray Muzzle Organization, which helps older pets find housing. Many people neglect older pets because of their age and often their disabilities. But every pet deserves a loving home, no matter what their age!
The actors came together to talk about their experience as seniors. Lily joked that “the best thing was to get into cheaper movies”, while Bob said, “I’m 90, but I still feel like I’m 30 … except when I’m trying to run. ”
Bob also said that “getting old is not a death sentence” because, for many older dogs, it is. Many older dogs are placed in shelters because their owners have died and the family cannot take the pet, or they can no longer afford to care for them. Oftentimes, older dogs may need medication, surgery, or other help to keep them alive. But when these animals end up in shelters, they are often euthanized because no one wants to adopt them.
