this nice 12-year-old boy uses his spare time to help dogs and cats get their best day by giving them elegant bow ties to wear, so they can finally be adopted.

Many animal shelters face the problem of not having enough space for a large number of dogs and cats that are brought there. Although no shelter can refuse to accommodate an animal, they are often forced to sleep a lot, which makes the last few days many adorable puppies an experience without love or care.

Zach Skow, founder of California rescue Marley’s Mutts can not say it loud enough; “The vast majority of dogs do not survive.” Of the 13,600 community shelters across the United States, nearly 7.6 million adorable animals pass through each year, but only 2.7 million are able to leave when they are adopted by their new owners.

Knowing the heartbreaking struggle that millions of dogs face each year in shelters, Darius Brown, 12, decided to do what he could to make a difference. He spends hours each week creating beautiful bow ties so our furry friends can find their home forever.

This helps the dog to be visible, very attractive, “said Darius. “It helps them find an eternal and loving home … I love everything about dogs and cats.”

Darius’s sense of compassion comes in part because he knows what it means to fight. At 2 years old, the doctors diagnosed Darius with speech delay, delayed comprehension and delayed fine motor skills. Yet, thanks to dedication and perseverance, her gentle soul has surpassed these challenges.

His mother, Joy Brown, and his sister, Dazhai Brown-Sheraz, both played an important role in encouraging his development. When Darius was 8 years old, his sister went to cosmetology school and had the task of creating ribbons for little girls.

“Thanks to his fine motor skills, he was not really able to use his hands well – tying a shoe was a challenge,” she explained. “My mother and I had the idea that if he helped us with things like preparing the ribbon or cutting it, and sewing the fabric together, it would help him. And it worked – it worked!
Darius was able to develop his fine motor skills and he began to create fashionable bow ties. His hobby turned into his own business, Beaux & Paws, where he started creating bow ties for people and their pets.

After witnessing the devastation of hurricanes Harvey and Irma and hearing that countless displaced dogs and cats were being sent to shelters and often euthanized, Darius was heartbroken. He decided that he would donate his bow ties to dogs and cats in animal shelters in hopes that they would be adopted more quickly.

Darius started donating bow ties to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). He is now focusing on donating directly to the shelters himself, and he is raising money to do as much as he can to save the lives of many adorable pets.

When bow ties are purchased from Beaux & Paws, he uses the money to purchase bowtie gear that he can then donate to shelters, and he also continues to donate a portion of each sale to the ASPCA.

“Donations help a lot because we were just digging in our pockets, buying the fabric ourselves,” said Darius’ mother.

Darius has won several awards for his compassion in helping so many homeless pets. His greatest encouragement came from above, when one day in the mail, he unexpectedly received an encouraging letter from former President Barack Obama, who is known for reaching out to compassionate people and strengthening their minds. The letter praised him for his commitment to community service and said that Obama was rooted in him in everything he did.

“We are definitely very proud of Darius. He has overcome a lot and he is still going through a lot of things, “said his mother. “He just keeps believing what he believes.”

They have some loving, energetic, and playful dogs just waiting for a loving forever home. Old Glory (white pup) is very calm and lovable, Hedgehog (Brown dog) is just as loving and so cute and adorable, and Tarmac (black pup) is very playful and affectionate.
