Mallacoota was one of the areas hardest hit by the Victorian bushfires and there are reports that 4,000 people spent New Year’s Eve trapped on the foreshore while fires were raging nearby.
Smith has spent an annual vacation with his family in the small town since 2004. She said the coastal town has never experienced such horror. 80 houses are reported to have been lost in Mallacoota.
