“The animal shelters had given each of them a temporary name before we adopted them,” Eckert explains. “The name of Kelvin’s refuge was Socks and the name of Joule’s refuge was Sandals. How ironic that Socks and Sandals make such a beautiful pair!”
However, Eckert could never have predicted how deep the link between the two would be. Then one day, she decided to install security cameras around the house to keep an eye on things when she was working.
One day, when she rebroadcast the images, Eckert could not believe what she was seeing. The Kelvin, which was easy to live with, comforted the Joule, normally very tense. And it wasn’t just temporary comfort, it was all day.
“We noticed that Kelvin and Joule were lying together on the couch almost every day,” Eckert said. I moved the camera to take a closer look at the sofa and was surprised to see that they were not only sharing the couch, but were huddled together.
Eckert decided to post the moving videos on Reddit, captioning them: “This literally happens every day of the week during the 8 hours we left.”
Joule is not the only one to benefit from these hugs. Kelvin also feels lonely, so Joule is the perfect substitute.
Eckert explained: “Kelvin’s personality is very sweet and very cute. He loves to sleep and get warm, which he gets by slinging against Joule during the day.”
If Eckert hadn’t installed the cameras, she would never have discovered the truth about the connection between Joule and Kelvin. And Eckert is relieved to know that someone is taking care of Joule while the family is away for the day – even if she doesn’t always show her gratitude to Kelvin.
