Saving a stray puppy may not be the job of a police officer, but some kind-hearted officers don’t do it for the job. Some people really want to help the little ones who cannot help themselves. One of those great people is Constable Kareem Garibaldi of the Lakeland Police Department in Florida.
Officer Garibaldi completed an early morning shift on a Saturday in May 2016. When he was driving his patrol car, he almost ran into a small mixed Pit / Boxer puppy. The 8-10 week old puppy did not have an identification tag or collar and simply ran loose.
Without a contact number or address to return to, Agent Garibaldi took charge of finding the puppy’s family. He roamed the neighborhood and posted photos on social media the next day, hoping someone would recognize her. No chance.
Unable to locate family members, he brought the puppy to the LPD for food and warmth until the end of his shift. He would not let her fend for herself.
At the end of his third consecutive day working 12 hour shifts, Officer Garibaldi knew he had more still to do for this pup. On his own time off the clock, he brought the dog to the SPCA Florida Medical Center for care and inspection.
